Rachel Fellows-Schnackel
Violinist Rachel Fellows-Schnackel has performed across the United States with ensembles such as the Memphis Symphony, Nashville Symphony, Nashville Opera, North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra as Associate Concertmaster, and Tupelo Ballet as Concertmaster. Currently she performs as Principal 2nd Violin with the Missoula Symphony, with ensemble String Orchestra of the Rockies, and in the sections of Glacier and Great Falls Symphonies. As soloist and chamber musician, she performs across Europe and the United States. In 2015, she served as part of the resident string quartet of the Zodiac Festival in Valdeblore, France. Schnackel performed two seasons as a member of the National Repertory Orchestra under conductor Carl Topilow.
An avid teacher, her expertise emphasizes combining Galamian and Pardee pedagogy along with Suzuki philosophy. While studying for her Bachelors and Masters in Music Performance, she studied with teacher Kevin Lawrence at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. While there, Schnackel served as graduate teaching assistant for Mr. Lawrence. Influential Chamber music coaches included Joseph Genualdi, Allison Gagnon, and Eric Larsen (American Chamber Trio). Schnackel completed her musical studies and received her Artist Diploma studying with teacher Soh-Hyun Altino at the University of Memphis.
Schnackel has had the privilege to work with conductors with ensembles across the world including Jaap van Zweden, JoAnne Falletta, Gerard Schwarz, and Carl Topilow, as well as Ransom Wilson, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Luis Haza, Miriam Burns, Charles Barker, and Marius Stieghorst.
As recording musician for numerous film scores, Schnackel performed as concertmaster for John Mauceri’s American Premier of Korngold’s complete score for Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. They received an Emmy for the broadcast of their production. Schnackel has recorded for Netflix films and on the Tocatta Classics and Naxos labels.
